Also, as your home heats up, the heat transfer process slows down; eventually, when the inside temperature is the same as the outside temperature, the split heat pump reaches zero heat transfer at equilibrium. Your air conditioner also cools less effectively in extreme heat, so keeping it off during the hottest part of the day can improve the overall efficiency of the system.
